We Won't Let the Europeans Dictate Our Elections

Evidently, the Europeans are horrified that we won't let them dictate our president to us.

I thought that American Revolution thingy kinda made it clear that we weren't going to let them control us anymore? And that Monroe Doctrine thingy kinda emphasized our independence? And the fact that the rest of the world whines and cries when we don't take care of it?

How dare these stupid Europeans threaten us for exercising our right to vote?

Even if it's not ethnic prejudice, but some other aspect of the culture wars, that proves decisive, the point still holds. For America to make a decision as grave as this one - while the planet boils and with the US fighting two wars - on the trivial basis that a hockey mom is likable and seems down to earth, would be to convey a lack of seriousness, a fleeing from reality, that does indeed suggest a nation in, to quote Weisberg, "historical decline". Let's not forget, McCain's campaign manager boasts that this election is "not about the issues."

The Europeans need to start taking care of their own problems if they want to feel qualified to complain that the U.S. is too free because we can pick our politicians without their help.
