It sounds a bit like wishful thinking to me, all this concern that the GOP is about to disappear and we are headed for one party (Democrat) rule. You've heard the mantra by now: the GOP may go the way of the Whigs. They're irrelevant. Republicans need to be more moderate. And so on and so forth.
You get the picture.
But just read this, and it's hard not to conclude that Americans agree with Republican ideas, as opposed to the big government ideas of the Democrats. Even the
complaints about Republicans and social issues doesn't hold up to scrutiny. Republicans aren't the ones who bring up gay marriage, abortion and embryonic stem cell research. Those are issues raised solely by Democrats in an attempt to brand majority positions as extreme.
Where Republicans have failed is when they became more moderate, more like Democrats, not less. This election-winning platform is not moderate.
Americans swing back and forth between conservatism and liberalism, election cycle after election cycle. The idea that, somehow, Republicans are through as a powerful party is merely whistling in the dark by people who are concerned that their hold on power is tenuous, at best.

Their Concern Is Touching
