That's the conclusion drawn by the 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team after investigating Scott Beauchamp's allegations of dehumanizing behavior by soldiers in Iraq.
But the usual suspects aren't going to let facts get in the way of a good "war is hell" argument. Jeff Goldstein dismantles the strawmen of the Left. I look at their arguments, and it seems these blogs must have hired Mary Mapes to explain the "fake but accurate" angle on Beauchamp's story.
I never wrote about this fracas, believing it to be yet another propaganda effort on the Left to discredit and dishonor our soldiers. But apparently, The New Republic allowed one Scott Beauchamp to weave tales of fiction on their pages and pass it off as fact. He described events as happening after being deployed to Iraq, yet no one could collaborate them. And what has been discovered is that at least one of his stories (about a melted-faced woman) happened in Kuwait, before he was deployed.
But the Left never let a few inconvenient facts get in the way of a good story, and these facts won't stop them now.
Dean Barnett at Hugh Hewitt's blog question's TNR editor Franklin Foer's assurances that this time, they've got the story right. How can we be sure since we don't have any witness names?
