Loathing the Campaign for Right and Wrong Reasons

Poor Richard Cohen. He's loathing this campaign (insert stamping petite foot here).

He loathes the blatant racism of some people who voted against Obama because he's black. But he doesn't loathe the racism of black people who voted for Obama because he's black. I guess that brand of racism is still acceptable in the Democratic Party.

I acknowledge that some people can find nonracial reasons to vote against Obama -- his youth, his inexperience, his uber-liberalism and, of course, his willingness to abide his minister's admiration for a racist demagogue (Louis Farrakhan) until it was way, way too late. But for too many people, Obama is first and foremost a black man and is rejected for that reason alone. This is very sad.

I've said before that regardless of the reasons one doesn't like Barack Obama, one will be branded a racist for not supporting his "historic" candidacy. It's perfectly all right if you don't support Hillary Clinton's historic candidacy because you don't like women or you don't like her, I suppose. Cohen doesn't seem to loathe people who can't support a woman for president. I guess that's part of the "more imagined than real" misogyny Cohen doesn't pay any attention to.

Cohen also loathes the press, which has made hay of insignificant matters like whether John McCain can run for president because he was born in the Panama Canal Zone or Hillary Clinton's invocation of Robert Kennedy's assassination. Oddly, he left out the same press that has tried more than once so far to drop a bag of flaming manure on John McCain's doorstep with unsubstantiated accusations of infidelity and deal-making. Or moonbat bloggers' use of senior moments as a way to imply McCain is senile for making mistakes similar to Obama's.

He also loathes Bill Clinton, but not for all the reasons most of us do: the lying, obfuscating, misuse of government records and employees, selling secrets to the Chinese, using the presidency as a personal path to wealth, illegal campaign contributions, and so on. No, Cohen just hates Clinton for unspecified reasons.

Well, guess what? I loathe the Democrats' campaigns, as well, but not for the reasons Cohen does. I loathe them because they compartmentalize people into different categories for pandering purposes, then act bewildered when these categories go after each other so viciously when their "turn" isn't given.

I loathe that Obama said he wanted to run a different kind of campaign when what he really wanted to do was fool enough people into thinking he isn't the far left radical his record shows him to be.

I loathe that Hillary Clinton was all but anointed their presidential candidate until someone prettier came along. Neither candidate has any experience running anything. What difference does it make whether it's a woman or a black man? If the only qualifications that count are immutable characteristics, why all the squawking about it? Just admit that you think being black or being female is a deal-breaker and get it over with.

The fact is, a lot of people loathe this campaign, but it's really just shown what Democrats are.

Ed Morrissey at Hot Air says this is the weakest field of Democratic candidates in years. Given their track record, that's a pretty wicked indictment.

Hugh Hewitt explains Obama's nomination.
Obama has won the nomination by running as a hard left, anti-victory tax raiser with a circle of radical advisors, mentors and friends. He will lose the general because he really is a hard-left, anti-victory tax raiser with a circle of radical advisors, mentors and friends.

And criticism of Cohen's whining comes from the Left, as well.
