When in Doubt, Blame Your Enemies

From the Barack Obama is a big, fat liar file:

Jake Tapper interviewed Vice President Joe Biden and challenged him on the administration’s new Recovery Summer public-relations sloganeering, with economic indicators retreating and consumer confidence falling. Biden implicitly acknowledged the failure of the Porkulus bill, but had a ready villain to blame — the dastardly Republicans who wouldn’t let the administration spend as much as they wanted
.

As Ed Morrissey explains, the Porkulus bill was the size it is because that's what Democrats wanted, not because of any opposition by Republicans. January 2009 was the height of I Won (so you can stuff it) freedom that swept Washington last year. The fact that the so-called stimulus package has produced a net 14,000 private sector jobs per month just points out the utter failure of Democrats to do anything about the economy. But then, they haven't really been interested in job creation. Can't let that crisis go to waste, you know.

How Long Till Kopp the Custard Guy Is Audited?

He's no Joe the Plumber, but Kopp the Custard Guy got under Vice President BiteMe's skin yesterday.

Earlier today Joe Biden was in Wisconsin, trying to help Russ Feingold salvage his Senate run, and he stopped at a frozen custard stand. When he asked the proprietor how much the custard cost, the proprietor answered, "Nothing, just lower our taxes."

Biden goes on to call the guy a smartass, which is a funny way to talk to the guy who's paid your salary for three decades. But it's tough to be a Democrat without a little contempt for the jerks who refuse to join public sector employment and continue to toil thanklessly in the private sector.

Do you think Kopp will now find himself getting the Joe the Plumber experience?

No Blood for Oil! Unless You're a Democrat

The liberal advisor to Joe Biden and John Kerry stands to reap millions off the Kurds.

As Tom Maguire notes,

If this had been an advisor to Dick Cheney, libs would be leaping from tall buildings.

But we can fully expect the silent treatment from the moonbatosphere over this one. Because IOKIYAD.

Regardless of the Number of Jobs This Administration Claims to Have "Saved," The Unemployment Rate Is Still Almost 10%

The White House is laughably trying to claim that it has "saved" 640,000--er, make that 1 million jobs, but has to admit to a lot of fuzzy math to get to that figure.

The White House argues that the actual job number is actually larger than 640,000 -- closer to 1 million jobs when one factors in stimulus jobs added in October and, more importantly, jobs created indirectly, such as "the waitress who's still on the job," Vice President Biden said today.

Now, is that the waitress who has a job today but has already been told that she's being let go at the end of the week? I guess that's above Biden's paygrade to assess. Lots of people have survived layoffs to this point but who are in line to get cut by, say, January.

And more to the point, even if we credit the Obama administration with "saving" 1 million jobs, those jobs come at the cost of $160,000 a piece.
Jared Bernstein, chief economist and senior economic advisor to the vice president, called that "calculator abuse."

He said the cost per job was actually $92,000 -- but acknowledged that estimate is for the whole stimulus package as of the end of 2010.

$92,000 for a waitressing job? That's an accomplishment only the echo chambers at Delaware Liberal could love.

It's true that GDP was up 3.5% for the quarter, but as long as unemployment stays around 10%, the Obama recession isn't going to be over in most people's minds. And don't bother with the "unemployment is a lagging indicator" meme. If you just won the layoff lottery, you aren't too interested in lagging or leading indicators.

I Feel Safer Already

U.S. Changes Course on Eastern European Nuclear-Missile Shield

The White House is scrapping a Bush-era plan for an Eastern European missile-defense shield, saying a redesigned defensive system would be cheaper, quicker and more effective against the threat from Iranian missiles.

This is probably more about appeasing the Russians than about safety and security from Iranian missiles. What an appropriate date.
President Obama celebrates the 70th anniversary of the fruition of the famous non-aggression pact … the Sept. 17, 1939 Soviet invasion of Poland* … with a big present for Stalin wannabe Vladimir Putin.

It's also Constitution Day, a propos of nothing.
This is a much better deal for the neo-Stalinists than the Molo-’Trop was. Cutting deals with Hitler was a predictably dodgy game, destined to end badly … as any fool could see given what Hitler was doing with the Munich Agreement. So the Obama-Putin Iranian Nuclear Disarmament/Eastern European Betrayal Pact is more like if Stalin had cut a deal with Chamberlain on, say, Sept. 2, 1939, to help contain Hitler. Or maybe like Hitler cutting a deal with Chamberlain to keep Mussolini in line.

But we don't really need this since Vice President Joe Biden assures us Iran isn't a threat.

I feel so much better, don't you?

UPDATE: I feel even safer.AP NewsBreak: Nuke agency says Iran can make bomb.

Joe Biden's Many Feet...in His Mouth

Wonderful column by James Lileks detailing the numerous gaffes (when someone is this dumb, do we continue called them gaffes?) of Vice President Biden.

Yes. Vice President Biden. Remember when we were all told how evil, crafty, and manipulative Vice President Cheney was? Back in the good ol' days--or maybe they were the bad ol' days, it's so hard to remember the latest version of the past--we were concerned that a vice president held too much power and influence with the President. Thank God we don't have to worry about that anymore. Now we have a vice president whose chief responsibility seems to be backtracking on his past statements. Of course, given that his boss is a serial flip-flopper, having to eat one's words seems to come with the territory.

We now have an executive branch which has spent more money in six months that any administration in history with fewer results to show for it. We have a president who trots around the world apologizing for America's supposed arrogance and brutality, who is treated--unsurprisingly--with contempt and churlishness. We have a vice president who can't make a single statement without embarrassing himself and us. And we have a government that wants to take over large segments of the economy without discussion or debate. What's not to like?

Ah, I miss the good ol', bad ol' days.
