NewsBusters.org has a nice piece discussing the origins of smear merchants Media Matters.
Specifically, Media Matters is a George Soros-financed mud factory designed to smear and discredit conservatives. Last week's flaps over Bill O'Reilly and Rush Limbaugh are but the latest examples. And it's no accident that Media Matters spends most of its time misquoting Limbaugh and O'Reilly. They do, after all, have the largest audiences on TV and radio. Read the Newsbusters piece for more info.
Instapundit says this isn't "smearing," but "battle preparation" designed to neutralize the effectiveness of Limbaugh and O'Reilly (and any other conservative commentators). That may be true, but I question how many people, when given the actual quotes repeatedly, will listen to that Media Matters boy who cries wolf by the time voters are paying any attention.
