Some Arkansas lawmakers want the state to apologize for slavery.
Granted, slavery's been outlawed for 142 years, but I guess that's not enough for some people (mostly Democrats pandering for a few votes).
I've never understood the point of the pro-apology movement. Any state apologizing for slavery won't change anything. We had a war and many men lost their lives to do away with slavery. It seems to me that that's enough.
What's next? Are these same people interested in apologizing for endorsing coverture for so long?
I agree with the head of the Arkansas Black Caucus, Senator Irma Hunter Brown.
"Race relations and the ability of people to get along is based upon deeds more than it is words and we'll be judged by how we treat one another. That's how we should be judged."
Let's spend more time worrying about behavior than silly, grandstanding P.R. events.
