Now he wants to impeach Dick Cheney.
Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio), the most liberal of the Democratic presidential candidates in the primary field, declared in a letter sent to his Democratic House colleagues this morning that he plans to file articles of impeachment against Vice President Dick Cheney.
Since the tragic shooting at Virginia Tech, Kucinich has put his plans on hold. I guess he couldn't find a way to tie the shooting to Dick Cheney, but Cheney's probably the only person who hasn't been blamed for the shootings.
But Kucinich shouldn't hold his breath on getting anywhere with his impeachment plan. "We'll see a Kucinich Administration before we'll see a Cheney impeachment," quipped one Democratic aide.
I guess since nobody is taking Kucinich's presidential campaign seriously (even the nutroots aren't), he has to try some trick to grab attention.
On what grounds, precisely? I have no great liking for the man, but I'm hard pressed to find "high crimes and misdemeanors" of which Cheney is guilty.
ReplyDeletePlus, it's a ridiculous idea for political reasons. If you impeach Cheney, you get a replacement veep, who becomes a strong contender in 2008. Why would Democratic legislators *want* that, absent some obviously compelling reason that Cheney has got to go?

ReplyDeleteI think he's great and our greatest chance for real peace in the world.
