What doesn't? This:
"A 26-year old woman with two small children wanted to free herself from the bonds of matrimony. The police had established that her husband, who, like her, was from Morocco, had beaten her. Her husband had to move out, but the terror continued: after the separation the still-married man threatened to murder the young mother.
[The woman sought an expedited divorce under German law.]
[The (female) judge denied the request, ruling that because both marital partners were from Morocco where the koran allows men to beat their wives, therefore there was] "not any unreasonable cruelty within the meaning of Paragraph 1565" [of the German divorce law, so as to allow an expedited divorce. The woman would have to wait out the normal one-year waiting period.]"
So, what are they outraged about? This:
A leading German TV-moderator and anchorwoman of the country’s top newscast caused an uproar last year when she admitted to regretting her three divorces, and condemned abortion, Die-Tagespost reported.
Eva Herman published her account of the fatal flaws in a career-oriented lifestyle in a bestselling book entitled “The Eva-Principle: Towards a New Femininity”, released last year. Now she’s published a second book, this one containing letters from women supporting her rejection of feminist self-fulfillment propaganda, reported The Spiegal news magazine.
It's amazing the sorts of things that will work people up into a lather. Just peruse the comments section at Common Sense Political Thought, where blubonnet never misses an opportunity to imitate The Scream, to get an idea what bothers some people. Oh, I know. I'm sure blu would get just as upset about women getting beaten up by their fathers, brothers, lovers provided she could find a connection to American foreign policy (double !!!!!! if she can find a moonbat link tying it to the Bush family). But still, shouldn't some of the angst wasted on the housework wars and SAHMs be spent condemning real atrocities?
Umm. Given that not one but two representatives of feminist organizations are quoted in the first article as condemning the verdict, I'm not entirely sure how you're claiming that it doesn't outrage feminists.
ReplyDeleteOh, I remember: It's because you're full of it.
As for why feminists are outraged by the second article, maybe the key is right there in the title: "Germany’s Top News Anchorwoman Leads "Anti-Feminist" Revolution."
(I must admit that I find it as hilarious as always that the person who says: "Let's just say it loud," Herman wrote. "We women have overburdened ourselves -- we allowed ourselves to be too easily seduced by career opportunities" is Germany's top anchorwoman, which presumably puts her in at least the top three anchorpersons. Unless anchorperson is not a career opportunity, I'm having trouble seeing her as anything else but a typical anti-feminist hypocrite.)
So NOW is upset about this woman's beating? You must have a link, surely, before you make the sorts of baldfaced lies here that you do on other sites.
ReplyDeleteAnd feminists are outraged at the second article because they are always outraged at the notion that someone could realize what a narcissistic lifestyle is advocated by so many feminists. There's nothing hypocritical about realizing life is about more than career advancement. But then, if feminists couldn't whine about women leaving the fold, what could they whine about?
Did I say NOW? Is NOW the only women's organization in the world? Did you mention NOW in your original article? Has NOW weighed in on the German anchorwoman?
ReplyDeleteYou really have to be kidding me, here, Sharon. You tried for a clever "gotcha" with a contrast which doesn't really contrast anything, I called you on it, so you move the goalposts and call me a liar. I guess I asked for it, in your mind, by calling you "full of it" on a comment to a post which is full of it.
I've watched you on several blogs before, Auguste. You come in, blast the poster, exaggerate, mischaracterize, and lie your way through the comments, then start in with the name-calling when all else fails. You are an insufferable blowhard. What's the matter, aren't getting enough arguments at LA?
ReplyDeleteThe original story was in German. You read German? And I asked about NOW because that is a very large, very public feminist organization that would be WELL-KNOWN to Americans. Sure, there are other organizations, but few as large.
