I won't reproduce any of it here. It's neither funny nor understandable. And we are long past the days when rape jokes would get you a pass. In fact, there's a guy in Texas who lost to Ann Richards based on a dumb rape joke. So, it isn't like rape jokes are suddenly problematic. We haven't been laughing for a long time.
Opie and Anthony got fired for encouraging people to have sex in public places, including St. Patrick's Cathedral. After that, they ended up on XM Radio, which doesn't have to follow broadcast standards. Frankly, that is the sort of place their show belongs.
Now the question is, will O&A get the Imus treatment? Says Captain Ed,
Compared to these three cases of arrested development, Don Imus was a model of propriety. What kind of men think that raping a woman and punching her in the face makes for humor? It doesn't matter whether they were talking about the Secretary of State or the secretary working at XM Radio, it's disgusting and repellent. It shows once again that the two hosts of this show have few redeeming qualities, if any.
Does XM Radio think this is funny? Do their subscribers? I don't think that Don Imus needed to be chased off the air for his offensive and tasteless remark, but if he went out the door for that, then Opie and Anthony should follow right behind him. However, what do you think the odds will be that Al Sharpton and the media will hold these two creeps responsible for this? About the same odds as having Rice appear on their show next week, is my guess.
It's been noted previously (by me here) that there is a double standard where Dr. Rice is concerned.
One of the arguments made to explain why the "nappy-headed hos" comment was so offensive was that the women involved were not powerful figures and shouldn't have been exposed to that sort of mockery. I don't buy that argument. I think if "nappy-headed hos" is offensive when referring to a group of black women, then calling the Secretary of State Brown Sugar or joking about raping her is also offensive. There shouldn't be a double standard here, but don't be surprised if the moonbats don't care about this one.
Raping her and punching her in the face? That's not funny. Now trying, convicting and incarcerating her would be simple justice.
ReplyDeleteOf course there's no mention from the wingnuts that some clown posted a video calling for the assassination of Barack Obama 4 times at your favorite new rightwing YouTube clone QubeTV. The owner Jeff Lord finally warned him that it's a federal offense to threaten the life of a US senator but never bothered to call the feds. A tad more serious than anything punk second rate shockjocks do on the air I'd say.
Actually, I've condemned all sorts of threats of violence against a variety of people. I'm sure you weren't one of the idiots at HuffPo celebrating the idea of the vice president dying, right? Because then you'd just look like a damn hypocrite.
ReplyDeleteWhat does it have to do with you? This is XM, a subscriber service. Do you search out offensive things and then are suddenly offended when you find them and then ask to for them to be banned? This is one of the most ridiculous arguments i've heard. Its one thing to be emotional in argument, however your feelings have consequences that aren't always predictive or logical. Deciding what is and what is not offensive is an impossible task, unless you want a group of people in their infinite wisdom to say "I know it when i see it". Think of the ramifications of your emotional argument before you write absolute nonsense.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of emotionalism, maybe you should read what you write before you hit the "publish" button.
ReplyDeleteWhat does it have to do with me? The Secretary of State is frequently a target of leftwing attack, much of which is racist and sexist. Frequently, those on the left decry what they consider racism and sexism from the right (they consider conservatives to be de facto racists and sexists), and yet such behavior coming from the left gets no comment at all.
What does it have to do with me? How about the fact that such comments and behaviors are offensive not merely to those directly affected, but to women in general? Rape isn't funny and hasn't been in a long time. At what point do you hold people accountable for the hatred they spew? If Imus deserves censure, then remarks like this are worthy of it, as well.
