Liberals Aren't Funny

With the introduction of The 1/2 Hour News Hour, we have seen the re-emergence of the meme "Conservatives aren't funny."

I've seen snips of the show, but not a full episode. Reviews were mixed. But everybody on the right was terribly concerned about this "Conservatives aren't funny" tagline. Why?

Conservatives have been funny for 20 years, and the evidence is no farther away than your local radio stations. Rush Limbaugh, Laura Ingraham and Glenn Beck are all (or can be) exceedingly funny at times. In fact, the success of the talk radio format for conservative radio is what has lead to calls for a return to the Fairness Doctrine.

The truth is, liberals can't do talk radio. They do lots of other media well and get their agenda out through TV entertainment, news, music, and movies. But they can't do talk radio.

Unless they want a Fairness Doctrine for liberal views on TV, liberals should reject the un-Fairness Doctrine.

  1. Conservatives are funny, if your type of humor is slut-shaming, gay-bashing, and ethnic mockery. Absolutely. I agree.

Conservative Talk Radio is popular because the people who listen to it like to be told what to think.

Rush Limbaugh is funny? Holy shit, I never realized how truly out of touch with reality conservatives are. He is a drug induced lunatic. He talks of halfrican americans (Obama), is that funny? He talks of femi-nazis, is that funny to you? (You would probably NOT have a blog if it weren't for the womans rights movement)

No, Mr Cryan, you got it wrong: conservative talk radio became popular because conservatives were tired of liberals trying to tell us what to think with all of the other media.

You would probably NOT have a blog if it weren't for the womans rights movement.

Good heavens, now the women's rights movement created the internet! Somebody please tell Real President Al Gore!

Mr Cryan, you might not be aware of this, but Sharon's site is on blogspot -- and it's free, so even a poor, helpless, stay-at-home subjugated woman could have a blog. But Sharon's good enough that I (a right-wing, misogynist male) asked her to cross-post on mine as well.

  4. Mark,
That's really quite amusing that you think I wouldn't have a blog were it not for the women's movement. Considering that there were many women writers over the centuries, it's a rather ridiculous argument to make that I would have been "silenced" by some patriarchy.

Rush Limbaugh is funny because he points out the silliness in the extremes of the leftwing. That's where the term "feminazi" came from, a term he hasn't used in years. And "halfrican American" was to point out the stupidity of the entire hyphenated-American PCness (my mother, a naturalized citizen, hated this phenomenon 20 years before Rush Limbaugh even had a radio show).

And you really don't want to go into the personal lives of leftwing comics, do you?

  5. Yeah, sharon. You're amazingly spot-on! Rush is funny to conservatives who hate worrying about other people's feeling, the same way some leftist comics use their own bigoted humor to make the bigots laugh. Wonderful that you're so open about it all! I'm actually shocked! Now that you've accepted it, what's the next step again?

  6. And sure you did Dana. She's working towards misogyny. It only makes sense you two would team up! Isn't friendship wonderful?!

  7. As my father used to say, sarcasm is the lowest form of humor. Thanks for proving, yet again, why you pull up the rear, so to speak.

  8. As my pappy once said, puns are the highest form of humor. People can be incorrect.
